Central America's first seismic-damping project: MAURER dampers on a 1978 building.
Built in 1978, the building needed to correct deficiencies exposed by earlier earthquakes. We carried out an ASCE 41 assessment (Tier 1 and Tier 3) and a subsurface investigation with geophysics and site response. With MAURER fluid-viscous dampers (MHD) we reduced demand on the existing frame and floor accelerations. It is the first project in Central America to use seismic damping; we supervised the installation.
